Configurable CSV export profiles for payroll platforms (ADP, QuickBooks Time, Paychex, etc.)

The ask

CSV export profiles tailored to specific payroll platforms so the exported file is a direct upload — not something the admin has to reformat first.

The problem this solves

Each payroll platform expects a different CSV column layout, header naming, and date/number format. Customers running payroll through ADP, QuickBooks Time, Paychex, Gusto, or others manually reformat the D-Tools CSV every payroll cycle to match their platform's expectations. That's manual, error-prone, and costs business hours per cycle.

Preset profiles per payroll platform turn the export into a one-click action that produces an upload-ready file.

Use cases

  • Admin runs payroll bi-weekly. Selects "Export for ADP WorkForce Now" from the export dialog. Resulting CSV uploads directly to ADP without further editing.
  • Shop using QuickBooks Time for payroll selects the QuickBooks Time preset; columns match QBT's import format.
  • Shop using a payroll platform we don't have a preset for selects "Generic" (today's behavior) and reformats manually.

Considerations

  • Start with named preset profiles for the most common platforms — ADP RUN, ADP WorkForce Now, QuickBooks Time, Paychex Flex, Gusto, Generic. Voting on this idea will help us prioritize which platforms to ship presets for.
  • Preset profile defines: column set, column order, header names, date/time format, number format.
  • Could later expand to a full custom column-mapping UI for shops on niche or in-house payroll systems.
  • Complementary to the broader "direct payroll integration" idea (separate, customer-driven). A configurable CSV is the bridge solution while customers wait for direct integrations to ship.
