Make model always visible in schematic view

Persistent Model / Part Number Visibility in Schematic View

Feature Idea

Ensure the device model or part number is always fully visible in Schematic View by improving label formatting, metadata prioritization, and manufacturer display controls.

Expanded Feature Description

Overview

In schematic workflows, the most operationally important piece of product information is often:

  • The model number

  • The part number

  • The SKU identifier

rather than the manufacturer or brand name.

However, the current label rendering behavior prioritizes showing:

  • Brand/manufacturer
    before

  • Model/part number

When space is limited, this can cause the actual model number to become:

  • Hidden

  • Truncated

  • Difficult to read

  • Completely omitted

Example:
Instead of:

Q-SYS CORE 110f

users may only see:

QSC...

This creates major usability problems because:

  • Multiple products from the same manufacturer may exist

  • Installers rely on exact model identification

  • Engineers need precise device references

  • Procurement teams require part-level clarity

This feature introduces:

A smarter schematic labeling and metadata display system that guarantees model visibility.

Core Capabilities

1. Always-Visible Model / Part Number

Capability

Ensure the model or part number is always visible and prioritized in schematic labels.

Expanded Description

The rendering engine should prioritize:

  1. Model / part number

  2. Device identifier

  3. Manufacturer

  4. Marketing description

The system should never hide the model number simply because the manufacturer name occupies too much space.

Example

Instead of:

Crestron...

users would see:

DM-NVX-360

or:

Crestron
DM-NVX-360

Benefits

  • Faster device identification

  • Improved installer usability

  • Better troubleshooting

  • Reduced engineering ambiguity

  • Improved procurement accuracy

2. Multi-Line Device Labels

Capability

Allow manufacturer and model information to render on separate lines.

Expanded Description

Instead of forcing all metadata into a single compressed line, the system should support stacked labels such as:

QSC
CORE 110f

or:

Sony
SRG-X120BC

This preserves:

  • Readability

  • Label hierarchy

  • Full device identification

without sacrificing clarity.

Benefits

  • Cleaner schematic readability

  • Reduced truncation

  • Better dense-layout usability

  • More professional documentation

3. Manufacturer Visibility Toggle

Capability

Allow users to disable or hide manufacturer names in schematic labels.

Expanded Description

Many workflows prioritize:

  • Model numbers
    over

  • Brand visibility

Users should be able to configure:

  • Show Manufacturer + Model

  • Show Model Only

  • Show Friendly Name

  • Compact Technical View

4. Intelligent Metadata Prioritization

Capability

Use context-aware logic to determine which product metadata is most important in schematic workflows.

Expanded Description

Different metadata fields have different operational value depending on the view.

In Schematic View:

  • Model numbers matter most

In Proposal View:

  • Friendly names matter most

In Client Presentation:

  • Simplified labels matter most

The rendering engine should intelligently prioritize fields based on workflow context.

Benefits

  • Better usability

  • Cleaner interfaces

  • Reduced information overload

  • Improved workflow optimization

5. Adaptive Label Layout Engine

Capability

Implement responsive label formatting that adapts to available space.

Expanded Description

The system should intelligently:

  • Wrap text

  • Stack fields vertically

  • Resize label blocks

  • Prevent critical truncation

  • Reflow metadata dynamically

Instead of:

Samsung Professional...

the engine could render:

Samsung
QM75R-A

Benefits

  • Better readability

  • Improved dense-diagram usability

  • Cleaner schematic layouts

  • More scalable rendering

6. Technical Readability Optimization

Capability

Optimize schematic labels specifically for engineering and installation workflows.

Expanded Description

Schematic View is fundamentally a:

  • Technical engineering environment

not primarily a:

  • Marketing or sales presentation layer

Users need to quickly identify:

  • Exact models

  • Specific devices

  • Hardware revisions

  • Compatible endpoints

The feature should optimize labels around:

  • Operational clarity

  • Technical accuracy

  • Fast recognition

Benefits

  • Better engineering efficiency

  • Easier troubleshooting

  • Improved installation accuracy

  • Reduced field confusion

7. Dense Diagram Scalability Improvements

Capability

Improve readability when schematics contain many devices in limited space.

Expanded Description

Large systems may include:

  • Hundreds of endpoints

  • Multiple racks

  • Repeated device families

  • Dense signal chains

Long manufacturer labels can overwhelm diagrams and obscure critical identifiers.

This feature improves:

  • Information density

  • Label hierarchy

  • Device differentiation

Benefits

  • Better enterprise-scale usability

  • Cleaner schematics

  • Easier navigation

  • Reduced cognitive overload

8. User-Configurable Label Formatting

Capability

Allow users to customize how device labels appear in schematics.

Expanded Description

Users should be able to configure:

  • Visible metadata fields

  • Field order

  • Line breaks

  • Label density

  • Font scaling

  • Abbreviation rules
