Splitting Quantity of Items

We would like to be able to split an item up under the Items page. Like if we have 4 of the same item needed for a project but we only need to order 2 because we have 2 in stock, we'd like to be able to allocate 2 as "In Stock" and 2 as "Ready to be Ordered".
