Implement Bulk Wiring functionality in dTools Cloud. This allows dealers to quote and install wire by the number of runs (their preferred method), while the system automatically handles bulk purchasing (spools/boxes) and tracks inventory by actual length.
A key new requirement is flexibility: Each dealer (or even each project/zone) must be able to define their own “run length” for any wire type (e.g. 100 ft, 150 ft, 80 ft, or any custom value), instead of being locked to a single fixed length in the product master.
Example Case
Selling & Quoting: We sell wire per run, but the length of one run is dealer-defined.
Default in master: Speaker wire = 150 ft per run
Dealer can override to 100 ft per run for a specific project/zone.
For a zone that needs:
2 speaker runs (at 100 ft each) → 200 ft total
4 Cat6 runs (at 150 ft each) → 600 ft total
The user still enters Qty = 2 speaker runs and Qty = 4 Cat6 runs.
Purchasing (new logic):
Speaker wire (500 ft spool): 200 ft needed → round up to 1 spool
Cat6 (1000 ft box): 600 ft needed → round up to 1 box
Inventory & Installation:
Receive full bulk units (+500 ft, +1000 ft, etc.).
Install/reserve only exact length used (200 ft).
System understands 1 spool = 5 runs when run length is set to 100 ft (500 ÷ 100).
After installing 2 runs, ~300 ft (3 runs) remain in stock.
Wire Item Setup (Product Master)
Default Run Length (ft) – e.g. 150 (this is the suggested/default value)
Bulk Unit Name – e.g. “Spool”
Bulk Unit Length (ft) – e.g. 500
Bulk Cost (optional)
Safety Margin % (optional)
Flexible Run Length Override (New & Important)
When adding wire in a project/zone, the user can change the Run Length for that specific usage.
The system remembers the last used run length per wire type per dealer (or per project).
Default always pulls from the Product Master, but can be freely overridden.
All calculations (total ft, bulk rounding, inventory consumption) update live based on the chosen run length.
Requested UI / Workflow Changes
Product Master: “Bulk & Run Settings” tab with Default Run Length field.
Project Wiring Input Screen:
“Qty (Runs)” – remains the primary field (unchanged behavior)
New editable field: Length per Run (ft) – defaults to master value, fully editable
Live total: “Total Length = Qty × Length per Run”
Live Bulk Purchasing Preview panel that updates instantly when run length changes.
Purchase Order Screen: Shows Runs | Length per Run | Ft Needed | Bulk Units to Order | Order Qty
Inventory Dashboard: Shows stock in Runs Equivalent (calculated using the project’s run length) and actual footage.
Installation Flow: Technician selects wire → enters Qty (Runs) → can adjust Length per Run if needed → system reserves exact footage.
Business Benefit Dealers work the way they actually sell (different run lengths for different jobs or preferences), while dTools handles all the messy bulk math and inventory automatically. This greatly reduces manual calculations and ordering errors.
