Customizable layout in the Connection View — drag, group by room, color-code

Problem

The Connection View renders a fixed default layout. Items can't be moved, grouped, or color-coded, so a project with a non-trivial number of devices produces a diagram that's hard to read and doesn't match how the integrator wants to communicate the system to installers or to the client. The diagram becomes unusable as a deliverable, even when the underlying data is correct.

Required capability

  • Drag-and-drop placement of items on the canvas.

  • Group nodes visually by room or zone (with a label per group).

  • Color-code cables by type (Cat6 / fiber / speaker / power / etc.) with a customer-defined palette.

  • Hide / collapse nodes (e.g., a switch with many connections) to keep the diagram readable.

  • Zoom and pan controls that work on real-world projects with dozens to hundreds of items.

  • Persist the layout per project so the diagram looks the same the next time someone opens it.

Why it matters

The Connection View concept is widely valued — integrators that get it working save the per-project time of building the same diagram in Visio or draw.io, which is a substantial labor item. Without layout customization, the feature can't serve as the integrator's actual diagramming tool, so it gets demoed but not used. Layout control is the difference between "neat concept" and "the only diagramming tool on this project."
