Project Inventory History Details

Being able to see who changed a project item's status from Planned > Staged > Picked > Installed, and when it happened, would help users add accountability and find mistakes or weaknesses in their process. It would also save time in investigating and resolving inventory discrepancies.

Great idea and we agree! Thanks for taking the time to submit.

Quick context on where this sits today. Our current inventory model is pool-based, meaning a product at a location is a single row with a total count. There's no per-unit identity to hang a "who changed this, and when" trail off of. The project item's scheduled status (Planned, Staged, Picked, Installed) is a single field on the line item with no history behind it today. So the short answer is the current version of inventory is unlikely to support this level of audit detail anytime soon.

The longer answer is much better. We have a major release of inventory coming, internally called Advanced Inventory. It's opt-in, and the core shift is that every unit becomes its own record with serial numbers, QR labels, per-unit location, per-unit allocation to projects, and a full activity history per unit, FULL item lifecycle infomation. Scheduled status changes on the project line item will be part of that activity trail on day one, including who made the change and when, which is exactly what you're asking for.

Rough timeline is this quarter or next for beta customers, no firm date yet. If per-unit tracking and full audit history are important to your workflow, stay tuned for Advanced Inventory beta!
